Sensational Surf Boat Results
SENSATIONAL SURF BOAT RESULTS from a weekend at Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.
Our surf boat crews train hard and race hard and they were rewarded with some fantastic results from two days of racing at Waihi from the 8-9th February 2025. Read on to share the success...
CHAMPION of CHAMPIONS – ‘The Bangas!’
‘The Bangas’ are our men’s open surf boat crew, consisting of: Lachie Hill, Noah Cromack, Sergio Schuler, Zane Sweetman and sweep Dean Isherwood. They secured first place in what has been referred to as ‘the ultimate test’ in surf boat rowing during day 2 at Waihi. Final placings were:
1st New Brighton SLSC – “The Bangas”
2nd Australia’s Bulli Gold (Silver)
3rd Paekākāriki Surf Lifeguards (Bronze)
Worthy of note is that the Australian Open Male crew, from Bulli Beach, are the current three-time Australian Champions and they had also taken out the Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand. This result is a HUGE achievement.
TOP New Zealand Club on the Leaderboard
New Brighton SLSC was the top New Zealand Club (coming second on points to Australia) but ahead of our other "oar"some New Zealand Clubs.
1st Australia (34 points)
2nd New Brighton SLSC (29 points)
3rd Paekakariki Surf Lifeguards (22 points)
Our teams always blow us away with their commitment to the club, patrols and surf boats.
LONG COURSE RESULTS
1st U19 Female - HeeBeeGeeBees
Alex Carmichael, Kate Galletly, Tara Penrose, Taylor Stirling and sweep Logan Penrose went into the final with a 1st, 1st and a 2nd placing so nothing was guaranteed. They pulled off a great race finishing 1st. A fantastic follow-up to winning Nationals in 2024.
1st U23 Female - The Boomfas
Our World Champion Team and previous New Zealand representatives: Caitlin Knudsen, Hannah Western, Grace Western Joanna Penrose and sweep Dean Isherwood may have missed out on representing New Zealand this year but they proved their strength by finishing ahead of Australia and the New Zealand Oar Blacks - Piha Crew in the final.
3rd Open Male - Bangas
Lachie Hill, Noah Cromack, Sergio Schuler, Zane Sweetman and sweep Dean Isherwood are really connecting in the boat and they had three firsts in the round races, a 2nd in their semi before finishing 3rd, behind Australia and the New Zealand OAR BLACKS - Piha.
5th U23 Male - Baddies
Angus McEwan, Harry Cournane, Jesse McClimont, Lachlan Grant and sweep Dean Isherwood are tracking well for Nationals with some good results during round races of a 3rd, 2nd and a 4th. Two of this team will also race U19 at Nationals so this experience was very valuable for growth and development.
5th Open Female - The Boomfas
The Boomfas love racing so much they competed in the U23 and Open. Caitlin, Hannah, Grace, Jo and Dean had some good results in the Open round races with three firsts and a 3rd in the semi, followed by a 5th in the final.
6th Open Female - JimboatWith an abundance of experience Bridgit Hart, Caitlyn Murphy, Hayley Buckley, Janelle Trask, Rachel Cash (nee Hellesoe) and sweep Jimmy Gaskell proved they are still a force by placing 1st, 2nd, 1st in the round races, with a 3rd in the semi before finishing 6th place in the final. They also had an up and coming star – Oaklyn - who was a supporter this time around but will be one to watch for the future (see photos).
GREAT JOB NEW BRIGHTON - Good Luck for Nationals!
Thanks to our supporters and sponsors who make the magic possible.
