Welcome
The New Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club is the oldest surf lifesaving club in New Zealand having been formed in July 1910. New Brighton SLSC has had a distinguished history both as a lifeguarding and a sporting organisation.
The season of 2010/2011 saw New Brighton celebrate its centennial year but was cut short due to the tragic earthquake that hit Christchurch making it impossible to host the centennial national at New Brighton beach. The National Champs was moved to Mount Maunganui where the club sent a small team and Jack Nash managed to come home with a bronze medal in the surf race.
New Brighton SLSC is as relevant to the wider Christchurch community today as it was back in 1910. The club continues to provide an invaluable community service in the form of voluntary lifeguard patrols. In the 2009/2010 summer season club members worked a total of 2055 voluntary patrol hours.
